The best auto-riggers for animals and creatures in 2026

Most auto-riggers were built for humanoids. Here's what each one can actually rig when your model has four legs, wings, eight legs or no legs at all, what it costs, and whether it gives you animations to go with the rig.

We make afk.ai, so it's listed first; weigh that accordingly. Everything about the other tools comes from their own documentation and pricing pages, checked in October 2026.

How to choose

  • Free, automatic, with animations: afk.ai. Nothing to install, and each body type comes with its own animations.
  • Already generating models with AI: Meshy (humanoids and quadrupeds) or Tripo (most creatures, one walk each) rig in the same place.
  • Rigging and animating inside your engine: Anything World's plugins.
  • Full control in Blender: Rigify (free) or Auto-Rig Pro (paid), placing the bones yourself.
  • Unusual shapes and a big GPU: UniRig or SkinTokens, then animate from scratch.
  • Humanoids only: Mixamo or AccuRIG are free and have large humanoid libraries.

Every tool, in more detail

afk.ai

Try it

Upload a GLB, glTF or FBX and an AI finds the body parts, then afk.ai fits a skeleton made for that kind of body, weights the skin and plays its animations on your model. You download one GLB with everything in it.

Rigs
Humans, four-legged and hoofed animals, birds, dragons, dinosaurs, spiders and insects, snakes, fish
Price
Free (Google sign-in, ad-supported)
Good for
Free, nothing to install, and every creature comes with animations made for its body.
Watch out
One skeleton per body type, so very unusual anatomy (extra limbs, tentacles) won't map cleanly. Exports GLB only.

Anything World (Everything Universe)

Website

Animate Anything rigs and animates creatures from a web app or straight from your engine. Meshes over 20,000 vertices are decimated, and processing takes from several minutes to around half an hour.

Rigs
Humanoids, quadrupeds, insects, fish, birds
Price
Free Individual plan (under $100K revenue); paid from $50/month
Good for
Broad creature coverage, animations included, and engine plugins.
Watch out
Uploads are capped at 30 MB a file, and dense meshes get simplified. Anything World now goes by Everything Universe.

Meshy

Website

Best known as an AI 3D model generator, Meshy also rigs and animates models you upload or generate. Props, buildings and vehicles can't be rigged.

Rigs
Humanoids and quadrupeds in the web app (humanoids only through the API)
Price
Rigging is free in the web app; free-plan results are CC BY 4.0, commercial use needs Pro
Good for
Handy if you already generate models with Meshy and want them rigged in the same place.
Watch out
Built around humanoid and quadruped rigs. Free-plan output needs attribution, and the API rigs humanoids only.

Tripo AI

Website

Tripo's newer rig model handles most creature types. Like Meshy, it's a model generator first, with rigging alongside.

Rigs
Bipeds; since February 2026 also quadrupeds, six- and eight-legged creatures, birds, snakes and sea creatures
Price
Credit-based (an API auto-rig costs 25 credits)
Good for
Wide creature coverage in a generate-then-rig pipeline, with an API.
Watch out
Creatures get one walk cycle at most, so you'll be animating the rest yourself.

Auto-Rig Pro

Website

A paid Blender add-on for building production rigs of almost any shape, with game-engine export and retargeting in the Full edition.

Rigs
Anything: dog and horse presets, plus wings, tails and extra limbs you add yourself
Price
$25 Lite, $50 Full
Good for
Full control in Blender, for any anatomy, with export presets for Unity, Unreal and Godot.
Watch out
You place the bones on creatures yourself and need to know Blender rigging. No animations.

Rigify

Website

Blender's built-in rig generator. Pick an animal template, move its bones into your model, and Rigify builds a full animation rig.

Rigs
Quadruped, cat, wolf, horse and shark templates (no bird)
Price
Free (comes with Blender)
Good for
Free and powerful if you're comfortable in Blender.
Watch out
Everything is manual, and there are no animations.

Cascadeur

Website

An animation app with AI posing and physics. Its Quick Rigging Tool turns a skinned humanoid or quadruped into an animation rig.

Rigs
Humanoid and quadruped templates (quadrupeds since 2025.3)
Price
Free (non-commercial, no FBX/glTF export); Indie $19/month; Pro $49/month
Good for
Animating creatures by hand, with physics and posing help.
Watch out
It doesn't skin your model, so it isn't an auto-rigger for a raw mesh.

UniRig and SkinTokens

Website

Research models that predict a skeleton and skin weights for any mesh. SkinTokens is the newer of the two.

Rigs
Anything: humans, animals and objects
Price
Free, open source (MIT)
Good for
Rigging unusual shapes, if you have a big GPU and don't mind the command line.
Watch out
No animations, and each model gets its own invented skeleton, so animations made for one won't play on another.

Mixamo

Website

Adobe's free humanoid auto-rigger and motion library. Great for people, but it can't rig an animal or creature.

Rigs
Humanoids only
Price
Free (Adobe ID)
Good for
Humanoid characters that need lots of motion-capture animation.
Watch out
Humanoids only. Downloads are FBX or Collada, and Blender 5 can no longer open Collada.

AccuRIG 2 (Reallusion)

Website

A free desktop humanoid rigger with a body and finger rig, exporting FBX or USD.

Rigs
Humanoids only
Price
Free (free ActorCore account to export)
Good for
Humanoids with fingers, on Windows.
Watch out
Humanoids only.

Questions

›What is the best free auto-rigger for animals?

If you want it automatic, with animations and nothing to install, afk.ai is free and rigs four-legged and hoofed animals, birds, dragons, dinosaurs, spiders, snakes and fish in the browser. If you'd rather rig by hand in Blender, Rigify is free and has animal templates.

›Can Mixamo rig animals?

No. Mixamo's Auto-Rigger only handles bipedal humanoids. For animals and creatures you need a different tool; see the table above.

›Why does it matter whether animations are included?

A rig on its own doesn't move. Tools that give every creature its own invented skeleton leave you to animate everything from scratch, while a fixed skeleton per body type means ready-made animations play on any model of that type.

›Which auto-riggers work for birds, snakes or fish?

Of the tools here, afk.ai and Tripo rig all three, Anything World does birds and fish, and Auto-Rig Pro and the research models can handle any shape if you're willing to do more yourself. Mixamo and AccuRIG can't.
